Transition Age Youth Program
Season One Overview
The Doorway Project, in partnership with University District service providers, received $150K for the 2021-2023 budget cycle to support a "Transition Age Youth" (TAY) pilot program.
To maximize the acceptability, feasibility, and success of this program, we designed all elements of the program alongside Transition Aged Youth (TAY) who are most impacted by the issues at hand. In Year 0, we formed a planning committee made up of TAY and program staff to develop the program philosophy and elements and in Year 1 we launched the pilot program.
Our philosophy includes utilizing the lived experience and expertise of everyone in the group to support the growth of others within the cohort (e.g., mutual aid model). By allowing the young adults to define areas of growth for themselves, as well as help them to define and achieve the goals they want to see happen for themselves, we believe that we are creating space for them to find inherent relevance of the work to their daily lives and heal on their own terms.
In the 2022-2023 cycle, The Doorway Project officially launched its TAY Pilot Program, building upon the foundation laid in the previous year by the TAY planning committee. The program successfully engaged 8 Transition Age Youth (TAY) participants, demonstrating a diversity of experiences and backgrounds.
